Canadian crime counts by year based on 60 cities' open-data feeds. Some cities publish more years of history than others, so yearly totals represent the cities covered in that year rather than a complete national time series.

Caveat: different cities joined CrimeMaps.ca in different years. A dash means the immediately prior year is unavailable in the current open-data window.

Every city page shows its own year-over-year change in the trend block, plus per-year pages at /city/[slug]/year/[year]. For the national Crime Severity Index trend, see /crime-severity-index.
The current open-data window does not contain adjacent years with enough coverage for a reliable national year-over-year statement.
Different cities joined our dataset at different times, and the public map is focused on rolling recent windows. Treat yearly totals as coverage by available open-data feed, not a complete national historical series.
We sum incident counts by year across every city in our dataset and compute year-over-year percentage changes. Individual city pages show the same trend at the city level.
